Slowly acquiring games…

May 25, 2007 cobalt45xy 6 comments

I’m beginning to slowly acquire games for my PS2. My honey bought me the PS2 a few weeks ago for 50 bucks. I’ve purchased two games on my list. Gran Turismo 4 and Tokyo Extreme Racer 3. I’ve always held the position that the Gran Turismo series of games could make me buy a playstation but and boy it doesn’t disappoint. I’ve only done one quick race but I can already tell its going to be fun to play it.

Tokyo Extreme Racer 3 is also another game in a series of games that I’ve enjoyed. Basically, the gist of the game is that you race around Japan in souped up cars and move up the chain in car clubs. I loved the two that came out on the dreamcast and the third one for the PS2 doesn’t look like its too far off from the others except its got better graphics and actual cars instead of fake ones that resemble actual cars.

Other games on my list include Virtua Fighter 4, Tekken 5/Tekken Tag, maybe Final Fantasy XII and a few others that I’m forgetting right now.

Yay for games!!

So bummed….

May 24, 2007 cobalt45xy 3 comments

I know it doesn’t really matter to anyone else but me but I’m really (x a billion) bummed today. It turns out that my beloved Nashville Predators are being sold to Jim Balsillie, Co-CEO of Research in Motion (the crackberry dudes). Normally, this wouldn’t be a big deal. Teams are bought and sold all the time and nothing changes except the people running them. However, Jim Baldy (that’s what I’m calling him) has made it known that his wish is to move whatever team he buys to southern Ontario. Baldy was in line to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins last fall but he backed out when the NHL decided that the couldn’t move the team. Nashville can get out of its 20 year lease through a clause in the contract and I’m willing to bet that within two years the Nashville Predators will become the Hamilton/Waterloo/Kitchener Predators which will suck giant donkey parts. I love hockey and I love my team and I’ll be heartbroken if they move.

In other news, it turns out the Lubbock Cotton Kings might be done playing for at least a year if not forever. The city of Lubbock decided not to approve the lease the team proposed and decided to not even vote on it at the city council meeting today. I’m a little bummed about it because now I’ve really got no reason to head home during hockey season. If anything good comes out of this it will be the current owners not paying their league dues and the league seizing control of the market so that a new ownership group can come in and start fresh with a new team and a new name.

All in all its been a bummer of day for me today. At least when I get home tonight I can play Gran Turismo 4 on the PS2 and that might make me feel a little bit better.

Gaming with the child

May 20, 2007 cobalt45xy 4 comments

Yesterday, the child and I went golfing at the local Par 3 family course in Bellevue. It’s all par 3s and the longest hole is like 150 yards. We get to the last hold and I hit mine way to the left and into a bunch of trees. Then I flubbed the next shot and mis-hit the next one. Needless to say, I ended up needing about 7 shots finish the hole. The child, however, manages to finish it in 5 shots. She proceeds to laugh and laugh about it all the way home and the first words out of her mouth when we get home are, “Guess what mommy?” Mommy says, “What honey?” Child says, “I beat Daddy on the last hole. Hahahahahahahaha!!!!” I say, “Yeah it’s true. She got me on that one.”

Today, we’re playing Tiger Woods 07 on the Wii (if you haven’t tried this game, find someone who has it and a Wii and you’ll be hooked), and we’re on the National course at a par 3. The child steps up, swings, and watches as the screen goes to widescreen. (That means you either hit it close or you hit it in). The ball lands, rolls, curves, rolls some more and proceeds to fall into the cup and she starts jumping up and down and laughing hysterically. Normally, you’d think that me being the parent would be excited for this but because I’m male and in no way should a girl or a CHILD for that matter beat me in anything I shouted “YOU SUCK!! You little twerp!” The SU comes running out and looks at me and says, “Surely, you didn’t just say you suck to the child?”

“Yeah, I did.”

“And how old are we? Who’s the grown up in this situation?”

All the meanwhile the child who’s hit the hole-in-one is hysterically laughing and replaying it over and over so I have to watch it. Anyway, I ended up redeeming myself. I beat the child by 12 strokes.

Problems with the car… boo hoo…

The SU informed me yesterday that the keyless entry remote on the Mazda stopped working. Well, being the resourceful man that I am I hopped on the Mazda 6 Club forums and started asking some questions. The first couple of things were obvious. Make sure the doors, trunk, and hood are shut tight and try it again. Check. Still not working. Next suggestion is to swap out the CX-7 antenna I have on for the original stock antenna. Check. But it’s not working. Next thing on the list is to buy a new remote battery and try that. I headed out to Radio Shack (it’s nerd store and I knew they had batteries of all kinds) and picked up a new 3V CR2025 coin cell battery. I came home, popped open the remote, swapped the battery out and with much anticipation headed out to the car to try it out. I press the unlock button and I get nothing. I tried every button on the remote and it still doesn’t respond. It looks like I’m off to the Dealership tomorrow (yeah they’re open on Saturday) to see if they can find the problem. Hopefully, this’ll be covered under the warranty. Otherwise, it’ll probably just have to wait.

Getting Domestic

May 17, 2007 cobalt45xy 5 comments

Yesterday, the Crumbsnatchers and I picked up the house before the Spousal Unit got home from work. I figured it would be a nice surprise and she loved it which was way cool.

Then I followed it up today with a boneheaded move of accidentally mentioning to the Crumbsnatchers that I was upset with the Spousal Unit. That’s a no-no in our house and of course the first words out of their mouths when the SU got home was “Daddy’s mad at you.” When we are upset at each other (it does happen) we try to keep it behind closed doors and not bring the kids into it because its none of their business and they should see a united parental unit. It ruined what could have been a nice evening and it’s all because I forgot and got upset over something silly that could have been avoided with a little more work on my part. Either way, I guess you win some and you lose some.

Tonight I figured I’d try my hand at cooking some dinner. Before you start laughing, I figured I’d try something easy. I’m not sure what its called but its basically chicken breast with Spaghetti Sauce and Mozzarella Cheese over Spaghetti or any other kind of pasta. It’s quite simple to make actually and only takes about 5 minutes of real work and most of that is to grate the cheese. So without further ado here we go.

You’ll need chicken breasts or tenderloins (whatever tickles your fancy), Spaghetti or other pasta, Spaghetti Sauce, Mozzarella Cheese, a casserole dish and a pot to cook your noodles in. Total cooking time is about 30 minutes.

cooking 002

First, Defrost the chicken and season it with salt, pepper, creole, cajun, oregano, or whatever else you like.

cooking 005

Second, put the defrosted chicken into an empty casserole dish. Think cake pan size. I think its 9×13 but I could be wrong.

cooking 003

Next, pour the Spaghetti Sauce over the chicken and spread it out evenly. Like so…

cooking 006

Cover it with aluminum foil and put it into your pre-heated oven at 350 degrees and cook for 20 minutes. (I forgot to pre heat so I had to wait a few minutes)

cooking 007

While the chicken is cooking its a perfect time to grate the Mozzarella Cheese.

cooking 008

At the end of 20 minutes, take the chicken out of the oven and remove the foil. Drizzle your grated Mozzarella on top of the Chicken/Spaghetti Sauce Mix. Put the uncovered chicken back in the oven at 350 for another 10 minutes.

cooking 010

When you put the chicken back into the oven start boiling your water for your Spaghetti Noodles. Most Spaghetti Noodles are al dente in about 7 minutes so the timing should be adjusted to compensate for cooking your noodles.

cooking 011

After your chicken is done cooking and your noodles are done, dish up some noodles on a plate and then place the chicken and spaghetti sauce on top and enjoy!

Oh, and I almost forgot, the ferocious puppy is staying with us for a while as her owner is out of town. Yay for us! Say hi to Lexi everybody.

Ferocious Puppy

P.S. My mouth still hurts but not near as bad. I went back for my follow up today and the tech says “Oh, you still have a stitch in there that hasn’t come out yet. Let me get that for you.” She stuck a metal hook in my mouth and yanked out the stitch in a quick motion and all I could think was “beeyotch! that hurt!”

I’d like to take a minute to wish…

the surgeon who busted my jaw in four places and (oops!) broke my sinus cavity a swift kick in the ass. I’m not one to complain about something hurting. I fight through all pain but this hurts like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. It’s not even my teeth or my gums that hurt. It’s my freaking bones. The right side of my face must have been where they busted my sinus cavity because it feels like I’ve got a sinus headache on that side. I go back to the doc on Thursday for a post op follow up to see how things are going and I hope to high heaven I feel better by then. Laying in bed most of the day is not my idea of fun. I was actually hoping to go back to work on Wednesday but if things continue as they are I’ll be working from home on Wednesday instead.

If you check my flikr link to the right you’ll see that I uploaded a bunch of pictures. The majority of these are older and there’s a lot of my old schoolwork mixed in there too. I’m trying to avoid putting family members in the photos too much because of the inevitable trolls that’ll come find me because they have nothing better to do. Either way, I think there’s some good shots in there. I plan on stealing the camera and taking shots more often just for fun.

Hey do you hear that? I think that’s another vicodin calling my name. I better go see what it wants.

Golfing Results, Wisdom Teeth, and Pain

May 11, 2007 cobalt45xy 3 comments

Wednesday was golfing day and I had a blast this time. We played the front nine at Carnation Golf Course. Previously, we’d only played the back nine. The highlight of my half round was shooting a bogey on a par 4. If I would have been able to find the tee shot I would have made par. I also hit a nice tee shot on a par 3 but overshot the green by about 15 yards. All in all, I shot better than the last time played and I finished with a final score of 62 on a par 36. It’s not great by any means, but it is better than the previous week’s 72. I think by the end of the summer I’ll be shooting in the 50’s and I’d definitely be happy with that. My score counted for my team (the top 4 scores count) and we won our match up and we sit in third place in league play. I’m not sure if I’ll be playing next week or not. It’ll depend on how I’m feeling and if I can get a cart.

As the subject says, I got my wisdom teeth plus an impacted tooth taken out this morning. Some of my friends over on the Mazda 6 Club Forums said I should take photos and then write a how to on the modification process. Since I’m a smart ass I replied with the following:

Step 1. Have someone drive you the surgeons office.
Step 2. Lie back in their chair and then will give you some NOS to soup yourself up. (not joking. I thought about making a wisecrack about whether or not this would damage my pistons or internals or if I should up the shot to 100)
Step 3. Try to respond without laughing to the silly small talk
Step 4. Almost fall asleep before the doc comes in and puts the tourniquet on.
Step 5. Doc says there’ll be a little pinch on the back of your hand.
Step 6. We’re going to put some medicine in here and its going to make you sleepy.
Step 7. Pass out until you wake up about an hour later.

Turns out they made some mod’s to my mouth. They had to break my jaw in four places to remove the wisdom teeth and when they did that they also broke one of my sinus cavity bones so I have a dissolvable sponge up there and I can’t blow my nose for two weeks. As an added bonus, any food, water, or liquid I drink may trickle up into my sinus cavity.

Maintenance after the mod’s include heavy doses of drugs to alleviate pain and a silly looking ice pack on your head. See, here’s me with the ice pack:

Me

And this one:

Me2

Hopefully I’ll be feeling good as new really soon. I’ve got Monday and Tuesday off of work so I’ll able to rest some more. I’m mostly looking forward to a meal of Chicken Teriyaki from my favorite teriyaki place and a big giant pizza once I can eat regular food again. Yum-Yum!

Fun with Golf

Everyday Wednesday (as long as the Seattle weather holds up) I participate in a golf league with my co-workers. I’m just a hack and my scores are always higher than everyone elses except for the last time I played. I managed to beat one guy but I got beat by all the women who played. Anyway, the spousal unit bought Jackass the Unrated Edition last week and we were watching it when we stumbled across one of the funniest things ever. Thanks to you tube, I can share it with you. And, I’m sure some day karma is going to rear its ugly head because I used to roll down the windows in the car while driving by golf courses and yell “FORE!!!” as loud as I could while people were swinging.

Enjoy!

An oldie but a goodie

At work last week some of us had a discussion about funny videos we had seen on the internet. The conversation was spawned because we received an email about a horse in Texas named Patches. The horse rides in a car, fetches drinks from the fridge, eats cheeseburgers, answers the phone, and sleeps in a bed inside the house. My co-workers thought that was hilarious but I said I could top that one.

Enter the summoner geeks.

Bored on a Sunday afternoon

The Spousal Unit and I had a friend over for a while today and we got bored so we were talking about porn star names. We knew what ours were and so we set off to find our friend’s name. Then, we stumpled upon this:

I haven’t laughed that hard in a long time.
